In a message on Twitter the Belgian virologist Geert Vanden Bossche warned that mass vaccinations against the COVID-19 virus will have catastrophic effects, urging that they be halted to prevent the worst.
As he explains in his post, the vaccinations, which he described as "prophylactic", are essentially responsible for the appearance of mutations, but also for the non-natural evolution of the pandemic, which would disappear gradually through social immunity or herd immunity.
He points out that no virus, even that of the Spanish flu immediately after the First World War, can survive longer than two years, which is the maximum duration for their natural development.
The Belgian virologist emphasizes that the COVID-19 will always be one step ahead of the vaccines.
"The initial form of COVID-19 generated only mild symptoms, or even no symptoms at all, in the vast majority of healthy individuals.
"So before we recommend administering any form of vaccine to everyone, we should at first make sure that any vaccine we use will reduce the rate of transmission and mortality to below the rate one would logically expect when the pandemic is allowed to run its natural course."
And, the Belgian scientist wondered: "Is anything like that happening now?" "No", is the answer. "What we see now is that the vaccines are not capable of preventing the spread of the virus from recipients of the vaccines who are exposed to emerging and exceptionally infectious forms. This impedes the achievement of herd immunity. While at the beginning of the pandemic the innate immunity in healthy people provided a stable line of immune defence this doesn't happen any more when the infectious forms increasingly dominate the scene", says Geert Vanden Bossche in conclusion.
"In conclusion: although vaccination can help just with providing an individual with temporary protection, mass vaccination in the midst of a pandemic will make the situation worse, encouraging the virus to opt for specific "counter-measures" which are not included in existing vaccines.
In consequence, the global population will probably have to face a worse variant of the virus, with all that entails.
