www.michaelsmithnews.com/2022/02/terrific-speech-in-canberra-today-from-former-qantas-pilot-graham-hood.htmlFor the first time Canberra is really becoming the capital of Australia. Citizen politics is beginning to be liberated, potentially, for the first time, from the deadend traditional right-wing obsession of "states' rights".
It is time for the Senate to become the vehicle of civil society, not of "states' rights".
The slogan of the far-left in Australia after the 1975 constitutional coup against the Whitlam Labor government was "Smash the Senate".
Of course the far left likes to talk about smashing things, but it is not the only way of making the points they are often trying to make.
The best speech by Graham Hood is the one he gave to the mainstream media, which was also recorded by a bystander and made it onto Telegram, which is where I saw his Canberra statements first. We'll see how much of what he said makes it into the mainstream media.
This is the message I left on his facebook page: "If you go into politics please do it in a way that assists constitutional reform, namely with the Senate being transformed from a states' house into a house of active citizens competing for a mandate with the House of Representatives, not based on universal suffrage and entirely liberated from the influence of the corporate media. Politicians will address their supporters directly, without mediation."

main.cse-initiative.eu/?p=988This address is part of a process which is clearly under way in all the main former British dominions: South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, potentially the United States also if one is to judge from Del Bigtree's recent address in Washington. thehighwire.com/videos/journalist-calls-for-trial-of-the-press-that-lied-to-the-world ("This stupid city!") Graham Hood's support must be secured for something he is already half-proposing: citizen involvement in the political process. The Australian Senate was established as a states' house and now with the country's state premiers behaving unconstitutionally it is time for the Senate to be transformed from a house of "States' rights" into a house of active citizens: competing for a mandate with the House of Representatives. "Active citizens" implies no corporate media and no universal suffrage. Universal suffrage can be expressed through a periodic referendum as to where in the political system the mandate should lie.
