Preda in our discussion on Wednesday we touched on the way that consanguinity and family ties more generally can serve as a way of mitigating the consequences of present-day restrictions, particularly in shopping and other transactions involving transferable goods. You mentioned the way this ability played a role in blunting some of the bad effects of Communist rule. Perhaps we should bear in mind, without cultivating illusions, that this feature of what Durkheim called "mechanical solidarity" also applies with royal families, including the British royal family.
Response from Preda: We are all royals of God's Creation! (What about that 🙂 ) Interesting points -- the family, the natural friendship ties, are strengthened in totalitarianism. This is how you can tell a Western from an Eastern German apart, even today. The Eastern ones have cultivated this emotional contact and informal support. Westerners especially in the North, delegated their heart to institutions
Response from Vivianne: Very powerful words, Preda.......
