I think it is possible to shine the light of truth on WWII. If one concedes that Israel has a right to exist and that all state building is a bloody and barbarous process. The Greek state was born in atrocious bloodshed also. There is a case to be made that Israel has gone further than others. If inputs cease being censored from states such as Iran, (and our friend Vangelis will help with that in our microcosmic scene), we can overcome the obstacles, which are not imaginary.

Netanyahu is being set up as fall guy for all this. Now that there is a Labour prime minister in the UK imposing politics worse than the most reactionary right-wing Tory could ever have dreamed of putting forward, it is perhaps time to examine the record of Fabian socialism, its relations with the USA, with the project of making English the world's lingua franca and a number of other matters that indicate that the historical phase where all this was necessary is now over.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I study the background of everything since 10 year FULL TIME. But if you use the bird perspective instead of diving into the specific content, (which only divides you!) you are able to envision the first real global movement which can unite and demand TRUTH.

Though I stand by the proposal to defer debate on what has been said in this thread so far until Nikos and I return to Greece from Romania next month, Reinette's contribution on 23rd September, my sister's 70th birthday, motivates me to add a new input to the program. I think it would be very bad to react to Reinette's unfriendly comments on Marx the way that many Jewish people react to unfriendly comments on Israel. The John C and John K idea that I floated in the thread is much more interesting to me than the prospect of a dogfight over Karl Marx, who in any case to me is less interesting than G.W.F. Hegel, whatever Marx's ideas on the subject and whatever strange ideas some "conservative" Americans have about "the Hegelian dialectic".

No, let's begin the serious debate next month. But let's also expand the pre-October discussion to include some Athenian friends: Vangelis, Nua, Panagiotis, Nikos (who is not Athenian) and then hopefully John M., who is going to Brussels but all things being equal will come back from there. And then we can move on to bring in Ilana, who has already made an appearance in the thread, and if we are lucky also the Greek Israelis Ilias and Yvette.

And after that, input from Romania.

Needless to say, my attitude to Reinette is the same as that of everyone I know who has seen what she has to say: unconditional approval.
