American author Jeffrey M. Smith was here in Athens last night as the guest of Greenpeace and ATTAC-Hellas. His book "Seeds of Deception" gives a good introduction to the subject of genetically modified foods. Jeffrey Smith finished last night's address with a paean in praise of Greece as world leader in resisting the encroachment of genetically modified food. He spoke in glowing terms of the Greek sense of history and respect for tradition (he had just come from five days in Crete). We of the audience talked about this afterwards. The Greeks thought he was just flattering us so that we would buy his book. I thought he was speaking sincerely.

Too bad for them.
He probably was.
This GM crop issue is very serious. This guy knows what he's talking about. Ill-advised decisions made and implemented now will end up being irreversible. It's already happening.
