This contribution from Friends of the Earth could be a good starting point for discussion in DiEM25 on the Green transition. A starting point only, not a finishing point. Friends of the Earth and Green activists generally are not facing up to the problems being confronted by the Energiewende in Germany: in terms of economic viability, in terms of technical viability, in terms of the actual effects in terms of delinkage from fossil fuels, in terms of the integrity of the forces pushing to make energy policy a subcategory of a discussion on climate. It is the far right that has seized on this critique, with the assistance, of course, of the nuclear lobby. They have plausible arguments that are not being addressed by our side of politics. The unacceptable elements in what they propose can be smuggled in by default.
