The address by Beatrice FIHN, Executive Director of ICAN (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) to the European Parliament on February 7, 2018. ec.europa.eu/avservices/video/player.cfm?ref=I150542
Mikael Book writes: It seems to me that DIEM25 is beginning to lag behind the European parliament (in terms of consciousness and conscience)... Has DIEM25 invited Beatrice Fihn to speak to our citizens' movement?
My comment on that: www.facebook.com/groups/diem25/permalink/1773392489633945/… It is true that DiEM25 is lagging behind the European Parliament on nuclear weapons policy. The EU has at least given a platform to Beatrice Fihn. DiEM25 should certainly do the same, as Mikael Book suggests. But it is within the power of DiEM25 to go further and make better (and less familiar and routine) nuclear disarmament proposals than Beatrice Fihn and ICAN have done. The DiEM25 thematic DSC on nuclear disarmament has written a draft policy document on nuclear weapons drive.google.com/file/d/1r1ox59d8UVRAzrz2scKVua2AaMElm2mR/view which advocates independent action by the EU. An assertion of sovereignty. As a Swedish citizen Beatrice Fihn could have pointed out how her own country has established a precedent for this, having carried out unilateral nuclear disarmament in the 1970s. This goes contrary to the globalist approach of the United Nations but it perhaps stands a better chance of awakening bored consciences, stimulating action and even conceivably influencing the certainly bored mentality of a Trump, who is allergic to globalist initiatives.
